Vaso G. Kavadias passed into the hands of the Lord, peacefully and surrounded with love, on January 8, 2025. She was born on November 10, 1925, in Karia, Kefalonia, Greece, one of five siblings and the daughter of Father Gerassimos Kapatos and Presvytera Persefoni Kopsini.
Vaso was the beloved wife of the late George Kavadias, married June 1955; adored mother of Maria (Jim) Damare, Angelike (Theodore) Dizelos, Gabriel Kavadias, and Jerry (Tara) Kavadias; cherished grandmother of Athena (Chris) Rogers, Evan Dizelos, James Damare, George (Jodie) Dizelos, Joanna (Matt) Bartles, Victoria (Michael) Dizelos, Jacqueline (Travis) Lockhart, Jared (Samantha) Damare, Kathlyn Kavadias, Julia Kavadias, and George Kavadias; loving great-grandmother of Maddison, Andromeda, Koula, Luke, Angeliki, Eleni, and Nikos.
Vaso was a woman of great faith, strength, and kindness. From a young girl, she ran the village local store working after school to help the family. She lived through the Italian occupation of Kefalonia in 1941 and subsequent German occupation in 1943. On August 12, 1953, an earthquake devastated the island, with hundreds of casualties, destroying almost every house on the island. Newly married, she came to America to start a new life. She passed on her Greek Orthodox faith and traditions, making it a priority that her children attend church and graduate from the Reverend Thomas Daniels Greek Orthodox School. She loved caring for others through her amazing cooking, storytelling, and acts of kindness. Vaso was a blessing to all who knew her. She is loved, cherished and will be missed beyond words.
The family will receive relatives and friends for a Visitation at 11am on Friday, January 17, 2025 at Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 721 Norwood Road, Silver Spring, MD 20905; where the Funeral Service will begin at 12noon.
