Umberto Antonio Buonassisi, 87, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2022. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Josephine Maria Buonassisi, his son and daughter-in-law John and Carla Buonassisi, his two daughters and sons-in-law Rosemary and Luis Gomez, and Anita and Matthew Piermarini. He was blessed with six loving grandchildren, Julianna, Nicholas, Anthony, Luke, Dominic, and Vincent who will forever cherish their Nonno. Also, survived by sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents Giovanni and Rosanella Buonassisi, and brother Stefano Buonassisi.
Umberto was born in Castelluccio Valmaggiore, Italy on September 24, 1934. He learned his trade of stone masonry at the age of 8 years old taking him to work in Switzerland and eventually immigrating to the United States to further his trade. Prior to immigrating, he served in the Italian Army. He met his wife, Josephine, through mutual friends at Holy Rosary Church in Washington, DC. Shortly after they met, they married and eventually settled in Silver Spring, Maryland to raise their family.
Umberto started his own stone/ bricklaying company, Buonassisi Construction, in Silver Spring, Maryland continuing to make his mark one stone and brick at a time. Umberto along with his son John worked together for many years. His talent, hard work and passion for his trade and family are forever embedded within his homes and his children’s homes which will always be a special memory.
Umberto was his happiest when surrounded by his wife, children and spouses, and grandchildren together in his homes in Silver Spring and Ocean City, Maryland. Umberto was everyone’s friend and would make friends everywhere he went. He was a great storyteller with an infectious laugh something his children and grandchildren will miss deeply about him. He was full of life and will be missed by many.
Viewing will be Thursday, April 28, 2022, from 10:30 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at St. Andrew Apostle Catholic Church, 11600 Kemp Mill Road, Silver Spring, Maryland 20902, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 P.M. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland 20906.
