Thomas John McGettigan

Thomas "Tom" John McGettigan, age 85 of Olney, Maryland passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 2, 2025 born in the Northside of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. Proudly served in the US Army from September 20, 1963 to September 17, 1965. He married is loving wife Mary Pat on February 15, 1964 and restated their vows 50 years later. After serving in the Army he worked for Westinghouse, NASA, the National Guard and other federal agencies for the federal government until retiring in 2008.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Mary Patricia Wilcher McGettigan; his children Anora Jean Schweitzer (Mark), John Thomas McGettigan (Charleen) and Timothy Michael McGettigan; his grandchildren, Amanda Marie Schweitzer, Emily Rose Schweitzer, Aidan Michael McGettigan, Katie Schultz, Frank Crenshaw and Andy Crenshaw and his six great grandchildren.

Tom will be remembered for his love of his football - that is the Pittsburgh Steelers, being a lifetime member of Fraternal Order of Eagles, bowling, Ancestry - following his Irish family and history and his love of crossword puzzles, cards games and computer games. He loved spending time at the “cabin” in the mountains of West Virginia.

Visitation will be at 10:30 on Thursday, August 28 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church 4101 Norbeck Rd., Rockville, MD 20853. The Funeral Mass will begin at 11:30 am. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, MD.

In lieu of flowers, please have a Mass in honor of Tom or for the Poor Souls in Purgatory.
