Susan Jeanne Dunn, 82, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, after a sudden illness on December 21 at Casey House, Montgomery Hospice, in Rockville, Maryland.
Born in Rochester, New York on February 12, 1943, Susan is the daughter of loving parents Joseph and Jeanne Dunn and the niece of her beloved Aunt Dorothy Schoen. She raised her family in Chatham Township, New Jersey, before moving to Florida, where she lived for 25 years. In later years, she relocated to Silver Spring, Maryland, where she lived with her sister and her sister’s family.
Susan was bright and brave, always open to trying something new. Beginning her working career with no formal experience, she built a diverse and accomplished professional life. She worked as a legal secretary, in the Florida Child Protective Services office, in the mortgage industry, at a commodities firm, and later in real estate as a licensed agent, approaching each role with determination and adaptability.
In her seventies, Susan volunteered at Days End Farm Horse Rescue in Woodbine, Maryland, reflecting her compassion and willingness to serve others.
Above all, Susan was devoted to her family and very close with all of them. She shared an especially strong bond with her sister Kathleen and was a large and loving presence in the lives of her children and grandchildren. Her grandchildren remember a loving and funny grandmother who cherished summers in New Jersey with them while their parents worked. Her beautiful and inviting smile was contagious, and the light in her eyes will be deeply missed. Her warmth, courage, and steady love shaped generations, and her Irish eyes will always be smiling in our hearts.
She is survived by her sister, Kathleen, and her brother-in-law, Bernard; her nephew, Michael; her three children, Mary and her husband Steve, Lynn and her husband Darin, and John and his wife Jerri; seven grandchildren, Jessica and her wife Brittany, Timothy and his wife Lauren, Adrian, Kieran, Allison, Megan, and Braden; and two great-grandchildren, Chicory and Abigail.
Susan will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

“May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.”
