Sheila DeGange Matheus

Born in Trinidad, Tobago on July 21, 1939, Sheila was raised in Venezuela and lived much of her adult life in Potomac, MD, with her beloved husband, Rafael Matheus, M.D. (Nov. 2005) and children, Francisco (Gabriela), Ralph (Elena), Maritza (Mark), Gustavo (Talia). Our beloved Sheila died peacefully in her home on December 30, 2021, leaving 6 adoring grandchildren (Nicolas, Caterina, Sobie, Isabella, Alex, Michael) and 1 great grandson (Leo).

Gracious, charming, elegant, and of generous spirit, Sheila touched many lives and was a consummate hostess whether with out-of-town guests or during holiday get-togethers. Sheila was known for her love of books, and lover of all things culture and beautiful. Dedicated to her family, Sheila carried forth many personal sacrifices made in support of her husband’s desire to practice medicine in the U.S. and to provide the family with opportunity.
