Shane Anthony Ank, 29, of Wheaton, MD, passed away suddenly on April 13, 2026. Born on November 25, 1996, in Frederick, MD. Shane was the kind of person who could walk into a room full of strangers and walk out with a dozen new friends. His warmth, humor, and genuine spirit made him impossible not to love.
From a young age, Shane dreamed of becoming a chef, and anyone lucky enough to taste his cooking knew he had the talent to back it up. He was an excellent cook who found real joy in the kitchen, whether he was experimenting with new recipes or feeding the people he cared about most. Beyond cooking, Shane loved working with his hands and building things, particularly advanced model cars, finding satisfaction in creating something from nothing. He had a sharp eye for style too, collecting designer Nike shoes and admiring exotic cars whenever he got the chance. His favorite job was as a lot porter, where he was able to drive Corvettes.
Shane had a heart for others that went beyond his personal circle. He was a supporter of suicide prevention efforts, understanding the importance of looking out for one another and making sure no one felt alone. That caring nature defined him. He was always the first to lend a hand, crack a joke when someone needed a laugh, or simply show up when it mattered.
Shane is survived by his beloved son, Ariyan Ank, and Ariyan’s mother, Alexis DeGrange, both of Frederick, MD; his parents, John D. Ank of Rockville, MD, and Kristie Stains Ruff (Michael) of McVeytown, PA; his sister, Molly J. Ank of Bloomsburg, PA; his grandfathers, James E. Stains of Lewistown, PA, and Ira J. Ank of Wheaton, MD; his aunts, uncles and cousins; and many beloved friends. He was preceded in death by both grandmothers, Nancy A. Stains (née Wray) of Lewistown, PA, and Mary J. Ank (née McCune) of Wheaton, MD. His family and friends meant the world to him, and that love was something he carried openly and proudly every day.
Shane is loved by many and will be missed dearly. He will be laid to rest at the Belltown Community Cemetery in Belltown, PA. Memorial service details will be shared by the family at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Shane's memory to a suicide prevention organization or crisis center of your choice.
