Robert Patrick Flynn

Robert Patrick Flynn (Bob), 74, of Bethesda, MD, passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 7, 2025.

Born October 16, 1950 to Dorothy and Maurice Flynn in Washington, D.C., he attended St. Jane Frances de Chantal grade school, Archbishop Carroll High School, and Benjamin Franklin University, where he earned his degree in accounting.

He married his high school sweetheart Nancy in January of 1975 and moved into his childhood home where he would live the rest of his life. He ran Butler-Flynn Paint Company with his father in downtown Bethesda, and later worked for McCormick Paints in Rockville.

He was a man of few words, but lived a life of action through kindness and charity and service to others. Opening his home to countless people over the years, he was a Christian gentleman, a good husband, a good father, and a good friend. The embodiment of a true man, he loved his wife and family, attended Mass each Sunday, and could always provide a reason to laugh. Nothing made him happier than being with his grand kids.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Peter Francis. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy; his brother Michael and Barbara (Cavasini), and sisters Maureen Golding (Steve) and Mary Alice Bond (Graham); his three children: Matt and Michelle (D'Amour) of Bethesda, MD, Danny and Kari (Howell) of Bowie, MD, and Fr. Thomas Flynn, LC of Cincinnati, OH; and 19 grandchildren: Matthew, Sr. Fiat Joy, O.P., Shawn, Connor, Joseph, John Paul, Patrick, Thomas, Katherine, Emma, Daniel, Brendan, James, Margaret, Jude, William, Charles, Rose, and Anna Grace.

Funeral services will be held at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, 9701 Old Georgetown Road, Bethesda, MD 20814 on Tuesday, October 14 with Adoration at 9:15 AM, visitation at 10:00 AM, family remembrances at 10:45 AM and Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery  will be on Thursday, October 16, 2025.
