Robert Daniel Obituary

Bob passed on to Eternal Life on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital after a sudden illness.  Born in Philadelphia on March 13, 1950, he was the third son of the late Frank V. Daniel and Regina Luff Daniel.  From his Mother, Bob inherited appreciation for beauty and refinement in all things; from his builder Dad: a gentlemanly manner, a strong work ethic, a capacity to solve problems, and exceptionally large hands!  Gatherings with the extended Daniel/Luff families filled his life and special trips to the "Jersey Shore" were highlights of early years.

Success as a track and field athlete at LaSalle College High School garnered a number of college scholarship offers, and he took his javelin to the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.  There, he majored in Business Management, won numerous Southern Conference javelin/field events, held long standing records, and but for a crushed shoulder, would have participated in 1972 Olympic qualifying trials for his event.  On a beautiful sunny day, April 3, 1971, Bob met his future wife, Anne, under circumstances they celebrated and laughed about for 51 years.  Their hearts were captured.

Life after college found Bob moving rapidly through management levels in various corporations.  But his entrepreneurial spirit and independence put a halt to "corporate rise."  Instead, over most of his life, Bob "built" his own businesses: a successful Amway business that grew across the US and internationally (especially in England) making lifetime friends, consulting opportunities, a track and field supply business that allowed him to return to "roots" and opportunities to mentor young athletes, and a home renovation and landscaping business that, like his Dad so many years before, gave space for creative energy, and for talents and skills to  be used in fulfilling ways.

He loved his God and Country.  Each day began and ended with prayer.

Bob is survived by his wife of 45 years, Anne (Williams) Daniel, his sons Andrew Gordon Daniel and Father Timothy Graham Daniel, and his beloved grandson Dylan Preston Daniel; his four siblings Frank V. (Marnie) Daniel, Jr., Jean Daniel (John) Flewelling, Dr. J. Christopher (Lorraine) Daniel, and Lawrence Joseph (Melba) Daniel.  Bob was predeceased by his brother James Richard Daniel.  The extended Daniel family includes 13 game-loving nieces and nephews and their children.  The Williams and Custis families were loved.

Just as when young, the great joys of family time shaped Bob's life: spirited conversations, fiercely competitive pinochle games, only slightly less competitive board games, quiet times with sons Andrew and Tim, continually getting to know the two adult sons he so loved.  The stock market intrigued him.  Travels with Anne to near and far places filled their moments and plans.  They especially loved England.  He was strong, steady, and though hearing was limited, a sought after counselor.  "Your life is God's gift to you," Bob was fond of saying, "but what you make of your life is your gift back to God."

Obituaries are written in the heart before they can make their way to the page.
