Richard Judson Obituary

Richard Walker Judson of Wilmington, North Carolina departed from this life on September 6, 2024. He was born December 28, 1926 in Washington, DC. He is preceded in death by his wife, Alice Cole Judson, and his son Robert. He is survived by sons Richard Judson (Judy) of Wilmington, NC, and Gary Judson (Linda) of Catonsville, MD; grandchildren Cara Lowry (Joe) of Bel Air, MD, Ryan Judson and Kyle Judson of Easton, MD, Alyssa Judson of Catonsville, MD, James Judson (Hollie) of Parkersburg, WV, and Olivia Judson of York, PA; great-grandchildren Carolynn and Caitlynn Lowry, and Theo Judson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Richard served in the United States Army from 1945 to 1946 as an MP. Richard was working as a machine operator  in Washington, DC when he met Alice at a church dance. They were married in 1951.  He subsequently worked as a draftsman and designer for numerous aircraft and engineering firms in Washington, DC and Maryland. He retired from Automation Industries in 1991. Richard and Alice enjoyed ElderHostel and Shillelagh trips to various destinations around the United States, as well as ballroom dancing. He was an active member of St. Jude Church in Rockville, Maryland. Richard lived in Wilmington for several years after living in the Rockville/Silver Spring area for 60 years, and enjoyed being near his son Richard and his wife Judy.

Richard strongly believed in the importance of education. While he did not graduate from college, he taught himself what he needed to know to do his job well. In his leisure time, Richard was an avid golfer, playing in several local golf leagues.
