Richard Edward Davis, 90, of Rockville, Maryland, died Thursday, September 17, 2020 in Rockville. He was born June 12, 1930 in New York, New York to the late Richard Davis and the late Dorothy Wendehack Davis. Richard was also predeceased by his wife, Bertina “Dolly” Davis. Mr. Davis worked for AT&T for over 37 years.
Richard, better known as Dick, served in the USAF during the Korean War. He met the love of his life, Bertina, better known as Dolly, while stationed at Scott Air Force base in Belleville, Illinois. Together they raised four children and celebrated 56 years of marriage until her passing on August 6, 2009.
Richard had a passion for pursuing his hobbies and interests. He grew up in a house in the woods and near a lake, so he loved to go camping. He owned both sail boats and motor boats most of his life. He was also a strong swimmer, good skier on water and on snow and an exceptional tennis player. Richard and Dolly shared a passion for dancing and they pursued this hobby most Friday nights at their local Knights of Columbus or Moose Lodge.
Mr. Davis is survived by his beloved children: his son Richard A. Davis (Anne) of Gettysburg, PA, his daughter, Sherrie L. Tucker of Olney, MD, his son, Scott A. Davis (Laura) of Purcellville, VA, and his son, Jeffrey J. Davis (Cristina) of Winchester, VA; by his loving grandchildren Angie, Gina, Tony, Christine, Brent, Candace, Devon, Blake, Rickey, Alec, John, Maria, Jesse, Acela, Gabriel and Michael; by his beloved great-grandchildren Cayla, TJ, Riley, Grant, Maddie, Drew, Ellie, Leilani, Rhys, Harper, Wyatt, Tristan, Kellan and a 14th great-grandchild on the way.
A private, family only service will be held at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church at 11:00am in Olney, MD on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, MD.
