Richard Joseph August

On Monday, October 30, 2023 Richard Joseph August passed away peacefully at the age of 80. He is survived by his devoted wife, Kerry and his loving children Kevin August and Kate August Morin (Matt) as well as his son Greg August; his adoring grandchildren Kelly (Cole), Kaitlin, Shannon, Sean, Kathryn, Matthew, Connor and Kevin. Richard is predeceased by his parents Frank and Mary August.

Our Dad was born November 27, 1942 outside of Scranton, PA. He was the only child to Frank and Mary August. He graduated from Scranton Prep and later attended the University of MD, where he graduated with a degree in Engineering. He obtained his Masters from USC in Systems Management. He married Kerry O’Connor on August 6, 1966 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Kensington, MD.

His career spanned many years of working in the Government and working with the military. He worked at the Department of Energy in the Nuclear Waste Department. He also worked for the Army Corps of Engineers.  After retiring from the government, he worked in the private sector in Consulting. He was recognized as an “authority on nuclear waste.” When officially retired he then worked for the DNR in Annapolis, MD under Gov. Hogan. He and Kerry were very politically involved in Montgomery County, MD. He received the MCGOP Man of the Year Award in 2019.

He enjoyed spending time on his 10 acre property on the water in Cambridge, MD with his wife, Kevin, Kate (Matt) and his grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 10am On Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Kensington, MD; followed by the Funeral Service at 11am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Neck District Volunteer Fire Department.  Checks may be made out to "Neck District VFC" and mailed to 954 Cooks Point Rd, Cambridge, MD 21613.
