With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Regina “Gina” “Gigi”  McAndrew of Rockville, MD, on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at the age of 79.

Gina is survived by her beloved husband, Terrence “Skip” McAndrew, her children, Jovi McAndrew (Mary), Amanda McAndrew (Andrés), Terry Anne Cossette (Joe) and Trisha Deangelis; her cherished grandchildren, Haley, Griffin, Marcelo, Gabriel, Sebastián, Dylan, and Matthew; her siblings, Douglas (Joan), Donna, and Roxanne and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and dear friends.

Gina lived a life centered on family, generosity, and caring for others. She was a woman who knew exactly what she liked, confidently shared her opinion, and had a gift for making life memorable for those around her.

As a mother, she poured her heart into creating a childhood filled with love and tradition. She lovingly handmade the best Halloween costumes and many of her children's clothes, baked and decorated elaborate birthday cakes, and often had her famous chocolate chip cake waiting on the kitchen counter when the kids came home from school. She believed that home should be a place where people felt cared for, and she spent countless hours making sure her family felt exactly that.

That same love and thoughtfulness carried into her role as a grandmother. While she was not one to spend weekends on the sidelines at sporting events, she treasured time with her grandchildren in her own way. Sleepovers at Gigi’s house often included favorite traditions, special outings, and breakfast at the Apollo Restaurant. She loved creating personalized blankets and hats in her grandchildren's favorite colors or featuring their favorite teams and interests. Through these handmade gifts and shared moments, she made each grandchild feel uniquely loved.

Many weekends were spent antiquing, following Gina from flea market to flea market, auction to auction, searching for treasures and hidden gems. While her children may not have appreciated those adventures at the time, they eventually came to understand and share her love of history, antiques, and the stories behind old things. She had an extraordinary eye for finding beauty and possibility where others saw only something worn or forgotten.

Together, Gina and Skip transformed the Spear House in Rockville, which was once slated for demolition, into a warm and welcoming family home. The renovation became a labor of love that occupied much of their lives and created the backdrop for decades of family memories.

Gina loved gardening and decorating and always had a vision of how things should look. While she did like to get her hands dirty, she was often happiest supervising a project; she knew exactly what she wanted and expected things to be done right! That same determination showed up in everyday life. Whether it was sending Skip back to the store because he brought home the wrong item, requesting that a restaurant correct an order, or insisting on "light ice" in every drink, Gina was never afraid to speak up. Her family often joked that she could find room for improvement almost anywhere—and she usually had a point.

She brought that same energy to the volunteer work she loved. Gina devoted countless hours to organizations such as The Bargain Box, Habitat for Humanity ReStore, and the City of Rockville's Adopt-a-Family program. She cared deeply about helping others and giving back to her community.

Above all, Gina was extraordinarily generous. Over the years, she opened her home and her heart to relatives, friends, and loved ones who needed a place to stay during difficult times. She offered help without expectation, gave freely of herself, and never kept score. If someone needed support, Gina was there.

At the center of her life was the enduring love she shared with Skip. Together, they built a marriage rooted in devotion, resilience, and partnership. Through every challenge and every joy, they stood by one another and created a family that remains their greatest legacy. In recent years, as Gina faced significant health challenges, Skip cared for her with extraordinary dedication and love. Whether accompanying her through hospital and rehabilitation stays or helping her navigate daily life after she lost her mobility, he remained faithfully by her side. Together, they demonstrated what it truly means to honor the vows of love and commitment they made to one another 58 years ago.

Gina will be remembered for her generous heart, sharp wit, strong opinions, unwavering loyalty, and deep love for her family. She leaves behind countless memories, stories that will be told for years to come, and a family forever grateful for the love she gave so freely.

Visitation will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church, 10103 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland, on Thursday, July 9, 2026, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., followed immediately by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. Private interment will take place at a later date.
