Ramiro Blanco, 91, of Silver Spring, Maryland, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 5, 2021, with his wife and daughter by his side.
Ramiro was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala, on March 5, 1930. He lived in Guatemala until 1959, when he emigrated to the United States where he met his wife Maria. They were married in 1960 and raised their three children in Takoma Park, Maryland. He worked at the Organization of American States in Washington, D.C. for 35 years before retiring in 1995.
Ramiro was a consummate gentleman and family man. He was loved and admired by all who knew him. Ramiro and Maria raised their children in an environment filled with love and
laughter, and that spirit was infectious to everyone lucky enough to interact with the Blancos. From singing opera to cutting up the dance floor with his beloved wife and dance partner,
Ramiro lived life to the fullest – every day. He had a smile for everyone and didn’t hesitate to shed a tear when someone he knew was hurting. His five grandchildren view him as a central
and beloved figure in their lives – simply the best Abuelito of all time. He was a one-of-a-kind man and will be loved and missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Ramiro is survived by his wife of 60 years, Maria (Lupita), his three children, and five grandchildren: Ramiro Jr. and his wife Darlene (Smith) of Silver Spring, MD, their children Robert and his fiance Megan Healy, and Nicole; Iris Super and her husband David of Bethesda, MD, their sons Andrew and his wife Kailey and Tommy; and Eric and his wife Michele (Heidt) of Silver Spring, MD., and their daughter Grace.
