Rachel Golden Obituary

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce that Rachel Anne Mochrie Golden parted all too soon from this mortal coil on January 31st, 2023.

Rachel was, among many things, kind and caring in her short but love-filled life. She will best be known as a generous and fierce friend, sister, and daughter. She will be missed by all those she touched.

She hailed from the vast golden cornfields, meandering streams, and covered bridges of the Schoharie Valley. Graduating from high school too early to go to college, she spent a year in Bolivia through a Rotary Exchange scholarship. It was there that she failed to put her many years of French to use. She did, however, gain a fond love for the Latin world, the people, and their proclivity for welcoming those in need into their homes and lives.

Rachel was a proud alumna of The Syracuse University Maxwell School of International Relations graduating magna cum laude. She would find her own obituary amiss if it lacked a resounding cheer, “Go Orange!”

Upon graduation, she followed her long family history of selfless service by becoming a Peace Corps volunteer. For three and a half years, she dedicated her life to helping advocate, educate, and empower the young women of Guatemala. From there, she spent her time helping young students in Residential Life at the University of Michigan, Rhode Island School of Design, Cornell University, and The George Washington University. However, she found real happiness and professional fulfillment working at the American Society of Hematology.

She is survived by Dr. Reid & Mrs. Nancy Golden, Anne Young, Ian & Taylor Golden, Sara & Brian Eichelman, Diane & Rick Swope, Katherine Schroeder, and her devoted dog Diego. She is preceded in death by Samuel L. Dog.

There will be a celebration of Rachel’s life in Washington, DC on the evening of May 20, 2023 (details to follow); as well as a private family moment in Schoharie, NY.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Stroke Association in her name.

We are all a little less without her.
