Obituary

Porfirio Zavala Arévalo de Washington DC falleció pacíficamente rodeado de familia el viernes 12 de marzo de 2021. Nació en El Salvador y comenzó su infancia en su amado país de Honduras donde conoció y se casó con su esposa, Juventina Zavala, y comenzaron su familia. En 1986, Porfirio se mudó a Washington DC y comenzó a trabajar en la industria de los restaurantes. Al jubilarse, se mudó de regreso a su amada Honduras, donde se entregó a su pasión por la agricultura y le encantaba plantar vegetales y cultivar un huerto. A Porfirio le encantaba andar en bicicleta y disfrutaba de una buena taza de café. Siempre estuvo orgulloso de decir que su nombre era "¡Porfirio Zavala Arévalo!" Después de su enfermedad más tarde en la vida, Porfirio regresó a Washington DC para estar con su familia.

A Porfirio le sobreviven su esposa, Juvenita Zavala; sus hijos Maria Orbelina Zavala, Gladys Lopez Zavala, Manuel de Jesus Zavala, Maria Del Rosario Zavala, Eric de la Cruz Zavala, Dilcia Zavala, Christopher Zavala, Gladys López Zavala, Idalia Zavala-Mejia, Porfirio Vidal Zavala, Margarita Zavala y la fallecida Reina Margarita Zavala; sus hermanos Pablo Zavala e Irma Zavala; y 29 nietos. Le precedieron en la muerte tres de sus trece hijos, seis hermanos y sus queridos padres. Porfirio siempre será recordado y extrañado en nuestras vidas.

El velorio será el miércoles 17 de marzo de 2021 en Misión San Andrés - Iglesia Católica, 12247 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, MD 20902 de 6:00 pm a 9:30 pm donde será la Misa de Entierro Cristiano el jueves, 18 de marzo a las 9:30 am. Entierro Cementerio Puerta del Cielo.

Porfirio Zavala Arevalo of Washington DC died peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, March 12, 2021. He was born in El Salvador and started his childhood in his beloved country of Honduras where he met and married his wife, Juventina Zavala, and they started their family. In 1986, Porfirio moved to Washington DC and began working in the restaurant industry. Upon retirement, he moved back to his beloved Honduras where he indulged his passion for farming and loved planting vegetables and gardening. Porfirio loved to ride his bicycle and enjoyed a good cup of coffee. He was always proud to say that his name was "Porfirio Zavala Arevalo!" Upon his illness later in life, Porfirio returned to Washington DC to be with his family.

Porfirio is survived by his wife, Juvenita Zavala; his children Maria Orbelina Zavala, Gladys Lopez Zavala, Manuel de Jesus Zavala, Maria Del Rosario Zavala, Eric de la Cruz Zavala, Dilcia Zavala, Christopher Zavala, Gladys López Zavala, Idalia Zavala-Mejia, Porfirio Vidal Zavala, Margarita Zavala and the late Reina Margarita Zavala; his siblings Pablo Zavala and Irma Zavala; and 29 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three of his thirteen children, six siblings and his beloved parents. Porfirio will always be remembered and missed in our lives. 

Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 17, 2021, at Misión San Andrés - Iglesia Católica, 12247 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, MD 20902 from 6:00 pm until 9:30 pm where Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, March 18 at 9:30 am. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
