With deep sorrow, yet with faith in the Resurrection, we announce that the servant of God, Philimon Cavasilios, fell asleep in the Lord on Holy Thursday, April 9, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones.
Philimon is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Eleftheria Cavasilios; his children, Tony Cavasilios, Stamatia (Richard Mercado) Cavasilios, Dina (John) Chanaud, and Eleni (Courtenay) Marshall; his twelve grandchildren, Michael, Erica, Timothy, Hailey, Samantha, Philemon, Alexander, Christopher, Michael, Nicholas, Laila, and Phil Anthony; and his great-grandson, Weston. He is also survived by his brother, Michael Kavasilios; his sister, Ekaterini (Tony) Sigalas; and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
Philimon will be remembered as a big-hearted and generous man, steadfast in faith and rich in love for his family and friends. He was always ready to share whatever he had—especially a good story, a warm smile, and a song. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Even in our grief, we are comforted by the hope of the Resurrection. As the Church proclaims the victory of life over death during this blessed season, we entrust Philimon to God, praying that he may rest in peace and rise in glory.
The Visitation will be held at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church of Washington, D.C., 721 Norwood Road, Silver Spring, Maryland on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, from 11:00am-12:00pm, followed by the Funeral Service at 12:00pm. Interment will immediately follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, Maryland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made, in memory of Philimon Cavasilios, to Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church of Washington, D.C., 721 Norwood Road, Silver Spring, MD 20905, or online at www.schgoc.org
May his memory be truly eternal!
