Peter Thomas Gaffney

Peter Thomas Gaffney, 93, of Silver Spring, MD, passed away on 06 November 2019. Devoted husband to Kathleen V. Gaffney and loving father to Anne, Bernadette and Peter. He was born on 23 August 1926 in Howth, Dublin, Ireland to parents Mary Hoyt and Christopher Gaffney.

He was educated at the O’Connell School, the oldest surviving Christian Brothers school in Dublin.

Peter met his bride, Kathleen, in 1942. They were married on February 11, 1953 in Dublin, Ireland, together raising three children.

Peter started his career with Gestetner Corporation in Dublin and relocated to New York City in 1958 where he continued his employment with Gestetner. Following transfers to Washington, DC and Philadelphia, he ultimately retired from the company in 1989 as the Regional Branch Manager.

He took up the sport of golf while living in New Jersey and quickly found it to be his passion, all while outplaying his friends with his short game. He loved spending time with his three children, their families, sharing vacations, and life’s celebrations. 

Peter is survived by his wife Kathleen, daughters, Anne Gaffney-Kasden and Bernadette Gaffney Kiel, son Peter Kiernan Gaffney, and grandchildren, Peter, Evelyn, Lucas, Joshua and Ryan.

The family has entrusted Cole Funeral Services with the arrangements for cremation. A Funeral Mass is scheduled for November 16, 2019 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 15661 Norbeck Blvd., Silver Spring, MD 20906 - 10:30 am Visitation, 11:00 am Mass.  A reception will follow at 12:30 pm at Clubhouse 1 in Leisure World, 3700 Rossmoor Blvd., Silver Spring, MD 20906.
