Born on February 2,1931 in Luke, MD, Peter was the son of Julius and Mary Louise Di Gioia. He graduated from Bruce High School in 1949, went to DC and started work at the Central Intelligence Agency in 1950. He was drafted in the Army in 1953 and was stationed in Europe until he was honorably discharged in May of 1955 and served in the Reserves until 1961.
Peter returned to DC and his job at the Central Intelligence Agency. During that time, he earned his Undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland and his Master’s Degree in International Relations from the University of Southern California. He served over 32 years, did tours in Tripoli and London, retiring in December 1984 receiving a Career Intelligence Medal. After retirement he worked as a contract employee recruiting the next generation for the Agency.
He was an avid traveler who went on many cruises and safaris all over the world with his wife Barbara. He flew gliders in England and became a certified single engine pilot in 1977. He was an active volunteer at his Church, Montgomery Hospice and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Peter is survived by his children, Greg (Judy) Di Gioia, Linn (Sam) Rivera and Gil (Rosemary) Di Gioia; and his (10) grandchildren, Grant, Jessica, Jordan, Julia, John, Jake, Anne Marie, Grace, Jack and Teresa; (7) great grandchildren, Garner, Jake, Lucy, Aidan, Logan, Guy and Jade. Brother Leo DiGioia and Sr Marie Gregory. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Joyce (Kelley)Di Gioia.
