With deep sorrow, we announce that the servant of God, Nicholas William Lambros, fell asleep peacefully in the Lord on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Nicholas is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Evelyn Anton Lambros; his children, Katherine (Theodore) Matrakas, William (Kathleen) Lambros, Michele (Timothy) Tostanoski, and Elisabeth Lambros; his grandchildren, Carlee (Gabriel) Gascon, Kendall Lambros, Nicholas Tostanoski and Alexander Tostanoski; and his great grandson, Atlas Gascon. He is pre-deceased by cherished brother John Lambros and sister Mary (Theodore) Chipouras. Survived by his loving sister-in-law, Martha Lambros, and by many cherished family and friends.
Nick will be remembered for his quick wit and generous heart. He was a proud Greek American who enjoyed spending time with his family, cousins and friends. His roots were deep in the Washington D.C. area, where he was born and raised. A family joke amongst his siblings, and later with his children, was to note the time at 10:20, which coincided with his street address growing up in Washington, D.C. Nick received both a Bachelor and a Masters of Commercial Science from Benjamin Franklin University. He also received his real estate license. He was married to the love of his life, Evelyn, at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in 1956, where he remained a lifelong member. After they got married, he moved his growing family to Bethesda, Maryland. He enjoyed working on the church audit committee and attending the Kali Parea Greek fellowship events. The church and his faith remained an important part of his life.
He lived the "American Dream" through hard work and humor, and instilled these traits to his children. After losing his own father at just nine years old, he stepped up to help his family, selling carnations at dances and other items on a push cart through the streets of Washington, D.C. That work ethic carried him from his first accounting job at Hot Shoppes, before it was known as Marriott, to a distinguished 38-year career as a Senior Financial Manager for Galliher & Huguely, a local wholesale building materials supplier and lumber millwork company. Nick was a past President and a life member of AHEPA Washington Chapter 31 and enjoyed working with the chapter investment committee.
He was a regular fixture at the Thursday morning men’s breakfast club in Bethesda. He had many friends that would go walking at the local mall and get together to socialize and talk current events. He enjoyed spending many summers with family in Ocean City, MD and would vacation with cousins and family there. He enjoyed season tickets for the Washington Redskins football games, collecting coins, puzzling, and spending time on his iPad, where he said many times, if he had this iPad back in his younger days, he’d be a force to be reckoned with!
He leaves us with 96 years of a life well lived, 70 years of a beautiful loving marriage, and a legacy as bright as the carnations he once sold. Even in our grief, we are comforted by entrusting Nick to God and that he will rest in peace with his other pre-deceased family and friends.
The funeral viewing will be held at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2815 36th Street NW, Washington DC 20007 on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 10:00am, followed by the funeral service at 11:00am. Interment will immediately follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, in Silver Spring, Maryland.
