Nicholas (Nick) Peter Kokonis passed away on Friday, June 12, 2026 at the age of 89. Preceded in death by his beloved wife Athanasia Kokonis, brother Louis Kokonis, and sister Matina (Zack) Zambetis, Nick is survived by his children, Peter Kokonis and Angela (Andrew) Hylton, grandchildren, Dimitri and Kristen Kokonis and Nicole and Christopher Hylton, and great-grandchildren Skylar Northrop and Athena Hylton.

A native Washingtonian, Nick was the youngest son of Greek immigrants who moved to the region in the 1930s to support their growing family. Nick served in the US Army and ran a small business painting homes and apartments across the DC region. After retirement, he lived with family in Ocean Pines, MD and Shady Side, MD, where he was an active member of both communities. Nick was known for his sharp sense of humor and enjoyed nothing more than meeting new people. He will be dearly missed by his family and the many friends he made over the years.

A viewing will be held on Monday, June 22 at 10:30 am followed by a funeral service at 11 am at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 721 Norwood Road, Silver Spring, MD 20905. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
