Moises Duran Obituary

Moisés Durán, 81, of Cochabamba, Bolivia, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his beloved family. In his final moments, he was held by his wife and children, who spoke to him with love and gratitude, giving him the proper goodbye he so deeply deserved.

Moisés loved deeply and therefore received love in abundance. He was a dedicated father, husband, brother, and friend—protective and loving in every role he held.
Born in Ayquile, Bolivia, Moisés was a fierce protector of his mother, Justina Arnez, and his siblings—Juan, Gloria, and Ana—carrying with him a deep sense of responsibility and loyalty throughout his life.

He was a man of immense talent and determination, a self-taught pianist and accordionist. Moisés later became a composer and founder of a gospel quartet. As a young man, he led his church’s youth group and competed at the national level in Esgrima Bíblica, a Bible verse-finding competition. He often placed among the top.

At the age of 16, he would accompany his mentor, a missionary, by motorcycle to remote villages, where they would preach and praise together. His faith and leadership later led him to serve as President of the Bolivian Baptist Union (Unión Bautista Boliviana) for two years, guiding others with wisdom and humility.

He married the love of his life, Olimpia “Livy” Caballero, in 1965. Together, they raised four children—Jochabed, Josué, Dally, and Lindsay.

Moisés graduated from Simón Bolívar University as an attorney and practiced law with conviction and compassion. He was widely regarded as one of Bolivia’s most dedicated professionals.
In 1986, due to Bolivia’s political and economic instability, Moisés and Livy made the courageous decision to immigrate to the United States in pursuit of a better future for their children. There, he founded Rapid Service Inc., a successful bread delivery company that served the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Through perseverance and hard work, he provided his family with a life of stability, opportunity, and love.

He retired at the age of 62 and embraced a new chapter full of vision and purpose. He fell in love with Costa Rica—its beauty, peace, and promise. Moisés was never idle—his mind remained sharp and inspired, always teeming with new ideas and ambition.

Moisés Durán was a man of strength, discipline, faith, and unwavering love. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the work he believed in, and the dreams he boldly pursued.

He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 60 years, Olimpia “Livy” Durán; his loving children: Livy Jochabed Durán, Josué Durán, Dally Ridgway, and Lindsay Gonzalez; his beloved sisters: Gloria Arnez and Ana Durán; and his cherished grandchildren: Robin Ridgway, Chloe Hernandez, Josué Benjamin Durán, Rogan Ridgway, Tiago Hernandez, Amy Durán, and Libby Hernandez.
