Mikhail Bernardo Calibag (Gorby, Gorb, & Nonong), age 35, of Odenton, Maryland, passed on May 7, 2026. A loving son, thoughtful cousin, generous uncle, and just a genuinely big-hearted human being.
After the loss of his father at 12, he moved from the Philippines to begin high school in Ohio, and earned his bachelor’s in political science from the University of Akron. Upon graduation, he felt his calling and joined the US Army in 2013, where he learned and grew his talents in counterintelligence. He served in Germany, Kosovo, and Poland then eventually sharing his expertise and knowledge by finding his place within the intelligence community.
Mikhail loved spending his time in several sports (especially basketball), time spent with family and with the friends he made his family. And as a naturally gifted communicator, Mikhail valued personal connection. He made it his mission to make everyone feel special, included, and loved. With that strong sense of justice and morality, he made sure nobody felt left out, and that the people around him knew they matter.
Mikhail followed his heart. It was brave, it was flawed, it was strong, and it was suffering, but it was honest and true.
Mikhail is survived by his adoptive mother Grace, his brother Paolo and sister-in-law Trina and their children Basti and Tula, along with scores of nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins from the Philippines to Ohio. He was pre-deceased by his father Homer.
Mikhail will forever be loved, always be missed, and never be forgotten.
Please join us to honor Mikhail on Thursday, May 14th, 2026 at St Joseph Catholic Church in Odenton, MD - 10 am Visitation, 11 am Funeral Service, and 12 noon Reception.
