Michael Valadez Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Michael “Zorro” Valadez of Gambrills, Maryland on March 17th, 2025.

On March 8th, 1928, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Michael was the fourth of 10 children (8 surviving to adulthood) born to Miguel and Luz “Lucy” Ramirez Valadez. He was preceded in death by his two beloved children, Sally Anne Dyer-Valadez and Michael Saul Valadez and his siblings Mary (Mike) Bove, Stanley Valadez, Victor (Eleanor) Valadez, Raymond (Angie) Valadez, George Valadez, Frank Valadez, and Gloria (Dennis) Miller. His faithful companion, Teddy the cat, went just before him and awaits him in heaven. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Leah (Stanley) Valadez, his grandchildren, his great-grandchildren, and many loving nephews and nieces and their families.

Following his time in the Navy, Mike worked for various state and federal government agencies and became a corporate attorney. Mike was active in support of several organizations in the community, arts and veterans’ affairs. He only recently surrendered his license to practice law, as he frequently provided Pro Bono services to those in need.

Mike, a true Renaissance man, was a great leader in the family. He will always be remembered for creating the Valadez Family Olympics, implementing the Valadez Educational Society, and being the twisted mastermind behind the infamous Draw That Thang [sic]. His infectious enthusiasm, non-stop sense of humor, great kindness and generosity influenced us all.

A self-taught musician, he played several instruments, sang and was a caller at square dances. He continued these activities late into his life. In addition to family and music, he enjoyed gardening and learning about everything. With his eternal optimism, he never lost the twinkle in his eye, his wonder and gratitude for life. Mike left this world a better place and we are all the better for having known him.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1pm on Friday, July 11th, 2025 at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, Maryland.
