Michael Jacob Herway

Michael Jacob Herway, born in Des Moines, Iowa, passed away in his West Virginia home surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, May 22nd 2025. He is preceded in death by his daughter Debbie, brother Kent, and parents Loren & Edna, and is survived by his loving wife Debbie, children Cathy, Michael, and Caitlin (Chris Meadows), five grandchildren Tessa, Brooke, Kelly, Jake, and Sadie Rey, brother Tom (Anita), and six nephews and nieces Danny, Seth, Jacob, Natalie, Nicole, and Steven. 

A dedicated member of a military family that lived all over, Michael served as a Lieutenant in the US Navy. He spent most of his career working for the US Government, ultimately achieving the honorable rank of Deputy Assistant Secretary of the VA. He was a graduate of the University of Maryland, where he earned a Bachelors of Arts and later went on to achieve a Masters degree in Public Administration at the University of Kansas. 

Michael will be remembered for his kindness, commitment to his family, extraordinary physical health, love for sports, infectious smile, and amazing sense of humor. 

The celebration of his life will take place in Rockville, Maryland on Friday, May 30th with Mass beginning at 11:00am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church [6701 Muncaster Mill Rd, Derwood, MD 20855] followed by the Burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery [13801 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20906] at 1:00pm.
