Mary Jude McCarthy Howard

Mary Jude McCarthy Howard died peacefully on October 29, 2022. Jude was a child of the Army, born in Ft. Benning, Georgia on September 16, 1931. The daughter of a Cavalry officer, she spent her early years in the Philippines and Chile. She was a life long Washingtonian.

Jude was a 1949 graduate of the Georgetown Visitation School and Villa Maria Academy, Santiago, Chile and a 1952 graduate of the Georgetown Visitation Junior College.

She led a long life of kindness and grace.

Survived by son Matthew Charles (Mason), daughter, Jessica Anne, brother Lt. Col Charles Peter McCarthy (ret), grandchildren Haleigh Marie, Justin Charles, Mary Carlyle, Matthew William, Michael James, two great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces, nephews and their families.

Preceded in death by husband of 46 years, William L. Howard, Jr., parents Col. Charles Weller and Charlotte McCarthy, brothers Captain Thomas Weller McCarthy and Lt. Col. John Michael McCarthy, and a daughter, Margaret Mary.

A Visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 8, at Our Lady of Grace Church, Silver Spring, MD followed by a Mass of Christian Burial.
