It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Marie Stanton Cardany, of Surfside Beach, SC, who passed away on July 18, 2026, at the age of 73.

Marie was born on October 7, 1952, in Washington, DC, to James and Katherine Stanton. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and love for family and friends. Marie was an accomplished artist who graduated from the Corcoran School of Art. She shared her talent with beautiful paintings, phenomenal photography, and mentoring young artists in several artistic genres.

Marie is survived by her siblings, Katherine (Paul) Roddy, Patrick (Jeannette) Stanton, John (Kathleen) Stanton, Sarah (John) Rasmussen, David (Mary) Stanton, and Mary Margaret Barry. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Cardany, and siblings James S. Stanton, Jr., Michael J. Stanton, Mary Elizabeth Walsh, and Paul L. Stanton, and brother-in-laws Dennis M. Barry and James P. Walsh, Jr.

Marie, lovingly referred to as "Aunt Ree", is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A time of Visitation will begin at 10:30am on Thursday, August 13 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Rockville, MD; where the Funeral Mass will begin at 11:30am.  Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, MD.

The family appreciates the love, prayers, and support during this difficult time. Marie will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
