Loula Marlas Obituary

Loula (Garyfalia) J. Marlas was called by the Lord to Himself on Saturday, September 4th, 2021 in her 80th year of her earthly life.  She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Loula was born in Karpenisi, Greece in 1941 and immigrated to the United States at the young age of 19. She worked as a master seamstress in Rockville, MD until her retirement. Loula respected and loved her Greek heritage, but was proud to be a United States citizen. 

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Demetri (Mimi) Marlas and her siblings Koula Siafakas, Alex Kontos and Ourania Lolis.   She is survived by her loving son, Yianni Marlas and his wife, Elizabeth Tappan Marlas and her beloved and adored grandchildren Sophia & Demetri (Mimi) Marlas.  She is also survived by her sister in law, Theoni A. Kontos, her brother in law, Cleon Marlas and his wife Pauline and many nieces and nephews.   

Family and friends may pay their respects at Sts. Peter & Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 920 West 7th Street, Frederick, Maryland 21701, on Monday, September 13th from 11am - 12 noon.  The Funeral Services will follow at 12 noon. Burial will take place at Maryland National Memorial at 13300 Baltimore Avenue, Laurel, Maryland 20707.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Memory of Loula J. Marlas to “St. Anthony’s Hospice at 2410 S Green St, Henderson, KY 42420”

May the servant of God, Loula (Garyfalia), rest in peace and rise in glory and may her memory be eternal.
