Lawrence Fiedler Obituary

Lawrence Robert Fiedler passed away on March 27, 2026, at the age of 79, at his home in Olney, Maryland. Known to all as Larry, he was a man of quiet strength, warm humor, and an extraordinary love of life — qualities that earned him the deep respect and affection of everyone he encountered: family, friends, along with his devoted medical team and caregivers.

Larry was born on July 12, 1946 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He spent his early years there, and in Ferguson, Missouri, and Elmhurst, Illinois. A shy, towheaded boy who loved sports, he was shaped early by both joy and hardship. When Larry was eight years old, he lost his mother — an experience that left him with a lifelong, tender compassion for anyone who suffered, especially children.

Larry graduated from the University of Maryland and earned a Masters Degree at American University. He built a distinguished career in public service with the State of Maryland Department of Justice where he worked on juvenile matters. After retiring from the State, he joined the U.S. Department of Justice, from which he again retired after an additional decade of service. His life of service continued in retirement, working as a dedicated volunteer with Olney Help.

In 1975, Larry married Linda Marie Annese. Together they built a life full of love, adventure, and laughter. Their son, Joshua Brian, was born in 1977. Larry and Linda traveled widely across the United States and throughout Europe, creating memories that lasted a lifetime. An avid sports fan along with Josh, Larry cheered on the Terps, the Cubs, and the Nationals. He played golf and poker with his buddies, and was a regular participant with his book club. For more than 60 years he remained deeply close with the "Kwumpfs", his college friends, a testament to the loyalty and warmth he brought to every relationship. Larry also spent much time in his cherished garden.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Linda, and his son, Josh; his sister, Martha (Frank L.) Spring; brothers- and sisters-in-law Frank and Dominica Annese, and Dominic and Charlene Annese; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and a wide circle of cherished friends. He is also survived, in the truest sense, by the team of devoted medical providers, caregivers, and therapists who became family to him — and to whom his family is forever grateful.

Larry will be deeply missed and long remembered.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Larry's memory to the American Cancer Society - https://www.cancer.org/ ; or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital - https://www.stjude.org/
