Kevin Daly Obituary

Kevin Vincent Daly, 55, passed away peacefully February 11, 2024, surrounded by his family at home in Gaithersburg, MD. Kevin battled a hard fight against pancreatic cancer for about a year. There will be a visitation at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rockville, MD. on February 24 from 10:30 to 11:30 am where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 am.

Kevin was born on July 23, 1968 in Wheaton, MD. He attended Our Lady of Good Counsel High School for 3 years before he transferred to, and graduated from, Einstein High School. During his time in high school he met Teresa Popken, his wife of 27 years. After graduating from high school Kevin began his career as a jack-of-all-trades. He first worked in construction, then alongside his brother Charles (Chuck) Daly, Jr. in HVAC and as a swimming pool technician. A highlight of his career was working with children as a classroom instructor in daycare centers and when his many talents were recognized he became the head of maintenance for multiple day care centers in Montgomery County and Northern Virginia for over 16 years. These passions, as well as his love for God, led him to St. Mary’s Catholic Church and School where he became the facilities manager for 16 years.

Kevin was a thrill seeker at heart. He had a huge passion for the eastern shore where he loved to spend time with family and friends, surfing and fishing. He also enjoyed mountain biking, hiking, and kayaking at Black Hills Regional Park in Maryland. He lived life to the extreme. He successfully sky-dived three times in Pittsburgh, PA. He had many more outdoor activities that would not have been as fun without sharing them with his sons Brad and Shane and his four-legged, trusted companion, Sandy.

Kevin lived his life through faith. He and Teresa became members of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Derwood, MD. early in their marriage. They used this to start the foundation of faith for their sons. Kevin also volunteered his time at St. Francis with the set up and delivery of packaged goods to the St. Martin’s food pantry. Kevin also made a yearly donation to the Alternative Christmas Program choosing the gift of chickens with the thought that it could be the “gift that keeps on giving.”

In the worst of times, during his sickness he made it very apparent to everyone that he “has not lost faith”; this is what kept his strength until the end.

Kevin leaves behind his beloved wife Teresa Daly, his sons Brad and Shane, his siblings and their spouses, Kathleen (Jeff) Hirsch, Chuck (Cheri), Daly, Timothy (Peg) Daly, Christopher Daly, and Patrick (Joan) Daly, and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews who adored him.  He is predeceased by his mother and father Charlie and Jude and his sister Mary Eloise and his brother Michael (Erich)

Kevin Daly touched the hearts of everyone he met, and he will be missed by all.

Donations can be made in Kevin’s name to St. Mary’s School, 600 Veirs Mill Rd. Rockville, MD 20852 or St. Martin’s Food Pantry, c/o St. Martins of Tours Catholic Church, 201 S. Frederick Avenue, Gaithersburg, MD 20877
