Judith ("Judy") Patricia Campbell Walser passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family, on July 6, 2026. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, community advocate, and friend, Judy lived a life of extraordinary generosity and quiet service.

Judy was born on October 28, 1936, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Anne and Stuart ("Stu") Campbell. She was a beloved sister to Anne, Linda, Jimmy, and David. The family later moved to Seaford, Delaware, and eventually settled in Greensboro, North Carolina. Judy attended Sacred Heart Academy in Belmont, North Carolina, where she once considered entering the sisterhood. While attending the University of North Carolina, mutual friends arranged a blind date with Robert ("Bob") Walser, an investment banker with Merrill Lynch. Nine months later, they were married and began building a life together. They started their family in Greensboro before moving to Potomac, Maryland, in 1965, and later, in 2009, to Ingleside at King Farm in Rockville, Maryland.

Judy devoted herself to raising her five children, serving her community, and actively participating in the life of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Her family's home on Garden Way became the heart of a close-knit neighborhood where children were always welcomed with snacks, drinks, and creative activities. The Walsers became known for their memorable Fourth of July celebrations, backyard football and baseball games, and the warmth and hospitality they extended to everyone around them.

A passionate advocate for others, Judy helped establish Potomac Community Resources, an organization that provides recreation and support for children and young adults with disabilities. This work held special meaning because of her close friendships with the Munero and Battle families and their daughters with cerebral palsy. Encouraged by Fr. Enzler and sponsored by Our Lady of Mercy, Judy trained as a community organizer dedicated to social justice. She was driven by a deep commitment to helping marginalized and underserved members of the community. As a founding member of Action in Montgomery, she was recently recognized for 25 years of service. Among the organization's many accomplishments was helping secure 5,000 units of affordable housing in Montgomery County.

Throughout her life, Judy found joy in bringing people together. She loved gardening, hosting bridge games with friends, golfing, and playing tennis with Bob, her children, and her Potomac tennis team. After moving to Ingleside, she continued playing bridge and enjoying an active social life.  An avid reader, Judy belonged to several book clubs over the years. Some of her family's favorite memories were made around a crowded table with relatives gathered for games, storytelling, and laughter that became family legend. Those stories continue to be shared whenever the family comes together. Judy was happiest when surrounded by the people she loved.

One of Judy's most cherished traditions was the family's almost annual summer beach vacation to North Carolina with her children and grandchildren. Long walks along the shore, building sandcastles, searching for seashells, fishing, and crabbing created treasured memories that will last for generations.

Judy also expressed her love through baking. She was famous for her banana bread, beloved Christmas cutout cookies made alongside her children and grandchildren, homemade holiday rolls, her signature green Jell-O dish, and the gingerbread houses she lovingly created over the years. These treasured traditions—and the love behind them—will continue through her adoring grandchildren.

Judy lived a life defined by compassion, strength, grace, and service. She was known for her warm heart, generous spirit, unwavering faith, and her ability to make everyone feel welcome. Through her wisdom, humor, kindness, and steadfast love, she touched countless lives. She will be deeply missed by her family, her friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she enriched and in the love she shared so freely.

Judy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Frederick Walser; her parents, Anne and Stuart ("Stu") Campbell; her sisters, Anne Campbell and Linda Campbell MacGrath; and her stillborn son, Andrew Walser.

She is survived by her brothers, Jimmy Campbell and David Campbell; her children, Anne (Gary) Rosenbaum, Rob (Allison) Walser, Helen Walser, Steve Walser, and Marty (Kelly) Walser; and her ten cherished grandchildren: Logan, Paul, Evan, Sarah, Braden, Noah, Henry, Diana, Veronica, and Lucas.

A celebration of Judy's life will be held at Ingleside at King Farm in Rockville, Maryland, on Thursday, August 6, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 7, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Potomac, Maryland, followed by light refreshments.
