Judith Hawkins Obituary

Judith Ann Hawkins of Potomac, Maryland passed away on March 1st, 2026 at the age of 84. She grew up on Long Island, in Hempstead, NY where she met her soulmate, Loring, at Hempstead High School at 14 years old. They married at the age of 18 years, and had a long and loving life together until his passing in 2021, after 61 happy years of marriage.

Judith was devoted to her husband and children, and carried much of the weight of the family while supporting Loring, who worked very long hours as a PGA golf professional. She was always present at her children’s school and sporting events, and walked many miles of golf courses in support of her son’s developing golf career.

As her children got older, she worked as a receptionist at an oncologist’s office and later for an audiologist. Her big heart and comforting manner, had a significant impact on patients. In her retirement, she devoted much of her time to helping elderly widowed women in her home parish in New York, driving them to appointments, grocery shopping for them, and being a companion. She was a devoted Catholic, who was a lector at her church for many years. She was also devoted to our Mother, Mary, and could frequently be found saying the rosary, even on car rides with her husband.

Judith’s many interests included gardening and making arrangements from her beautiful home grown flowers. She loved to knit, and she belonged to a quilting group for many years. She was an avid reader and loved music, knowing the lyrics to just about every song. She enjoyed going on walks with the family dog, and spending time at the ocean with her husband and children.

Judith is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Hawkins, and her two children Andrew and Megan, and son, Scott Hawkins (wife Caroline) and their two children, Lindsey and Paige. She is also survived by her sister, Eileen, brother, Charles, and brother, Gary.

A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Raphael Catholic Church on Friday, March 13th at 11:00 AM, located at 1513 Dunster Road, Rockville, MD 20854.

Donations may be made in Judith’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital - stjude.org/donate
