Joyce Romischer Delaney

Joyce Romischer Delaney, 92, passed away peacefully May 11, 2025 in Olney, MD. Mother of eight, grandmother of 34, great-grandmother of 33, our Lord called her fittingly on Mother’s Day.

Born in Wallace, Idaho on January 26,1933, Joyce never lost her preference for the mighty peaks of the Northwest, though she lived her entire adult life in Silver Spring, MD, raising a family with her beloved husband of 64 years, Dick (deceased in 2018) - her 4 daughters: Mary Joyce (Joseph Cable), Anne (FJ Collins), Eileen (Richard Loria), Maureen (Michael Crumley); and her 4 sons - John Joseph (deceased in 2006) (Janice), Patrick, Michael (Michelle) and Richard (Kira).  Joyce is also survived by her brother Bill Romischer of Seattle WA and her children's families.

The Delaney household was lively, made more rambunctious with the arrival of a series of Great Danes. Joyce was an animal lover, mostly dogs and horses, and cared affectionately for each one. Later in life, she put her semi-wild backyard to use nurturing wild animals, be they birds, chipmunks, raccoons or the occasional deer family.

Joyce was graduated from Misericordia University in Dallas, PA before marriage and was trained as a teacher. She used those skills to instruct her children, fostering a love of faith, learning and laughter. Youthfully exuberant, both in energy and style, Joyce will be remembered by nieces, nephews and grandchildren alike as the aunt/grandmother who occasionally sported pigtails on hot, humid days.

Joyce and Dick were devout parents whose Catholic faith was their guiding light. In their mid-years, they discovered additional vocations in Opus Dei, a lay organization for spiritual formation. Its support sustained them in tragic times, most notably the untimely loss of their son John.

Visitation begins at 9:30am on Thursday, May 15 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 2900 Olney-Sandy Spring Road in Olney, MD 20832; where the Funeral Mass will begin at 10am.  Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, MD.

Her loved ones are grateful that her final years could be spent at Marian House in Olney under the kind care of its staff, and in its lovely chapel, where she was never far from our Lord in the Eucharist.
