John Ryan Obituary

John “Jack” W. Ryan, of Silver Spring, Maryland, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, May 22, 2020 and was 93 years old. Jack was the beloved husband of 64 years to Mary Theresa Ryan (2015). He was the much-loved father of John (Beverly) Ryan, Terry (Rich) Graves, Tom (Ann) Ryan and Patty (Luie Divver) Kelley and the late Kathy Ryan. Jack adored his 14 grandchildren – Kristy (Matt) Goodnough, Kathy (Josh) Sanders, Karen (Matt) Kelley, Kevin (Alicia) Graves, Chris Ryan, Mike (Laura) Graves, Meghan Ryan, Jackie Ryan, Tommy (Bekah) Ryan, Paul (Lindsay) Graves, Ryan Kelley, Kyle Graves, Danny Kelley and Tim Kelley. He cherished his 13 great-grandchildren Dylan Goodnough, Julianne Sanders, Parker Goodnough, Gia Graves, Brookleigh Goodnough, Cassandra Ryan, Jackson Graves, Mickey Graves, Holly Ryan, Easton Graves, Britt Graves, Lincoln Graves and Amelia Ryan. Jack is survived by his in-laws Rita and Bob Klein. He was preceded in death by his twin Joe (Anita) Ryan, his sister Dorothy (Bill) Lonergan and brothers-in-law Fred (Nancy) Bruening and Fr. Ben Bruening.

Jack was always a joy to be around, as his spirit and love of life was evident by his smile and sense of humor.  Until his last days, he loved telling jokes and his favorite was the Duck Joke. He will be dearly missed.

Jack enjoyed competitive bridge until 92 years old. He participated in college ping pong tournaments with his twin Joe. Jack was an avid Cincinnati Reds and Washington Redskins fan.

A man of strong faith, Jack taught CCD, served as a Eucharist minister and led the rosary after the Saturday morning Mass at St. Bernadette’s Parish for many years. At Our Lady of Grace Parish, Jack served as a Eucharist Minister.

Jack served his country as a Corporal with the US Army. He had a wonderful and fulfilling career of 40 years of engineering/analysis/technical management experiences with VITRO, ARC Research & Development Company, GE Company, and Foster Transformer Company.

Private Mass of Christian Burial will be at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and private interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery on June 6, 2020.

A celebration of Jack’s life will be held at a future date for family and friends when it is safe.
