John Stanton Boteler passed to Eternal Life on September 6, 2023 at home in Olney MD. Mr. Boteler was a devoted teacher and counselor at Our Lady of Good Counsel and various Montgomery County Public Schools for over 30 years. He touched the lives of numerous students throughout his career. Many of them continuing to stay in touch with him long after graduation.
Stanton was born May 2, 1936 in Washington DC to Bernard Lamar and Kathrine Rose Boteler. He grew up in Brookland and graduated from Gonzaga High School. He earned a bachelors degree from the University of Maryland in 1959 and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He then served in the DC National Guard, followed by attending Our Lady of Angels Seminary. He also received a bachelors degree from Niagara University and a Masters of Arts diploma from the University of Maryland. After his retirement he enjoyed traveling and served for years as a volunteer at Montgomery General Hospital, making many friends along the way.
Stanton was predeceased by his parents, brother Bernard, sister Rose Mary McAleer and step-mother Alma Boteler. Survivors include his brother Gene (Mary), sister Libby DeMattia (Tony), 16 nieces and nephews and numerous great and great-great grand nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 10am on Monday, September 18 at Our Lady of Grace Church, 15663 Norbeck Blvd. Silver Spring MD; where the Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11am. Burial to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, MD.
