Joan Catherine Collins, 90, of Brookeville, MD passed away on September 15, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.
Joan was born to John V and Annie L Bergen in Washington, DC. She attended The Academy of Notre Dame and later moved to Wheaton, MD to raise her family and then to Brookeville, MD. Joan was a devout Catholic and her faith was so important to her.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, John P Collins III, her children Stephen Collins and Brian Collins, grandchildren Daniel Weatherington, Crystal Davis and Cecilia Collins and brother Johnny Bergen. She is survived by her children John (Jack) Collins IV (Dana), Jim Collins (Barbara), Joe Collins (Colleen), Maria Soderberg (Ray), Paul Collins, and Elizabeth Wynkoop (Jeff), as well as 28 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. She was a beloved Aunt to many nieces and nephews and a friend to anyone who knew her.
Joan will be remembered most for her unwavering love of her family and all animals. She touched so many lives and always remembered everyone on their birthdays by sending them cards – she was Hallmark’s most valuable customer. Joan was a great athlete and played many sports including softball, tennis, and bowling. She was an avid reader and a fan of classic film and TV. She enjoyed playing bingo, slots, and her scratch-offs – she was always a winner.
She will be missed dearly by all who called her Mom, Mom-Mom, Aunt Joan or friend.
The family will receive relatives and friends beginning at 10:00 AM on Monday, September 29, 2025 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, located at 15663 Norbeck Blvd, Silver Spring, MD. Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 AM. Internment to follow at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Silver Spring, MD.
