Janet Leigh Segui, 57, of Gaithersburg, MD, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, PA, was called home to her Lord on January 24, 2025, having suffered from Leiomyosarcoma since 2023. Janet was born to Robert and Susan Weisgerber on October 18, 1967 and brought them incredible joy. From a young age Janet demonstrated a natural gifting as a teacher and administrator, setting up a school room and office in the family basement where she “taught” and “directed” her younger siblings. Janet used these God-given talents throughout her life in a plethora of ways.
After graduating from Southmoreland High School in 1985, Janet attended Penn State University, earning her BA in French in 1989. She spoke often of the highlight of her college experience - studying abroad in Strasbourg, France her junior year. Immediately after graduating from Penn State, Janet worked as a conference planner for a French company and later took a position at World Bank in Maryland.
God grew Janet’s faith through her church family at Covenant Life Church in Gaithersburg where she met her husband, Winston. After becoming his wife in 1995, Janet welcomed the next greatest role of her life - mother and educator of their four children. She taught them in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, encouraging each of them to excel in the talents God gave them.
Janet generously shared her love of learning through planning field trip experiences, working as admin assistant in the local homeschool program, tutoring children, teaching at Montgomery County ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), and sharing stories and photos from places where she had traveled. Janet also employed her talents by creating detailed historical-themed feasts for their homeschool co-op, hosting elegant tea parties for family and church friends, staging homes for local realtors, and planning elaborate theme parties for friends and employers.
Through many trials over the years, including two bouts of breast cancer, God refined Janet’s faith and trust in His goodness and faithfulness to her. Janet continued to cling to Christ and celebrate His presence with her in every circumstance.
Janet is preceded in death by her husband, father, brother Bobby, and father-in-law Eddie. In addition to her mother, Janet is survived by her children, Isabella (Hank) Keyser, Josiah, Micah (Betsy), and Noah; grandson, Gideon Keyser; sister, Becky (Bryan) Myers; sisters-in-law, Lisa Weisgerber, Jessica Segui, and Jo-An (Tony) Goebig; mother-in-law, Annie; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will be Friday, January 31, 2025, 11:30AM-1:30PM at Covenant Life Church followed by a private burial service. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 11:00AM at Covenant Life Church: 7501 Muncaster Mill Road.
