James Edward Griffith passed away peacefully on November 22, 2022, at the age of 68, after a three-and-a-half-year battle with angiosarcoma. James spent the last 10 years in beautiful St. Augustine Beach, Florida, where he enjoyed daily walks on the beach with his soulmate, Helen, and beloved dog, Bella. Even after his cancer diagnosis, James and Helen lived their life to the fullest, traveling the world and spending time with family.
Born in Janesville, Wisconsin on May 23, 1954. Lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years, Helen Griffith; his three daughters and their spouses, Caitlin & Adam Eichler, Bryanna & Jonathan Frith and Glenda & Ryan Krieg; his four grandchildren: Elisabeth, Audrey, Andrew, and Evelyn; as well as his three siblings: Brad Fenzl, Claudia Elmer, and Jana Catalanello.
James was a devoted father, Army veteran, and dedicated researcher. He joined the army at 19 where he served his country for over 42 years. James earned his PhD in psychology at Claremont Graduate School, dedicating his life to research of military retention, post-traumatic stress, and suicide for both the United States Armed Forces, and the world through his many publications.
A celebration of life will be held at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Saint Augustine, Florida on March 18, 2023, at 2 pm. The burial will be arranged by the military in 2024 at Arlington Cemetery in Virginia.
