James F. Brown, Jr., age 96, passed peacefully at his home of more than 50 years on Saturday September 12, 2026. Married for 67 years to his beloved Peggy, they shared a wonderful life together, raising two children, Debbie and Dave, and were blessed with five grandchildren, Hannah, Cal, Wes, Louisa and Aubrey.
Jim was raised in New England, graduated from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, served in the U.S. Army, earned an MBA from Northeastern University and spent a successful career in healthcare and real estate. He was an avid baseball fan, having played on his St. John’s High School team, and loved the Red Sox, the team of his youth. He enjoyed going to spring training games in Florida, attending minor league games, as well as making trips to Baltimore and D.C. to watch the pros. Jim was a big jazz enthusiast and went to many jazz concerts and festivals over the years. He loved to travel, visiting over ninety countries during his lifetime. Blessed with good health, Jim and Peggy were able to travel until just a few years ago. Jim and Peggy also maintained a second home on the New Jersey shore, where they spent much time over the past 50 years. Many hours were enjoyed around the shore dining room table, playing Yahtzee, conversing and hoisting a few beverages with family and friends.
The grandchildren were a large presence in his life and he cherished his time with them. Papa, as the grandkids called him, enjoyed going to their birthday parties, opening presents on Christmas day, filling in as a sitter, going on nature walks or to the zoo, and especially taking them to the swimming pool! We are forever grateful that Jim was a part of their lives.
Jim, Dad, Papa, was the patriarch of the family and we will miss his optimism, congeniality, guidance and humor. We, and the many friends Jim shared, are eternally grateful for everything he did for us over his lifetime.
A Visitation will be held for Jim at St. Patrick’s Church in Rockville, MD on Saturday November 21st @11am, with the Funeral Mass to follow @11:30 and a reception thereafter (location to be determined).
