Ignazio Pustorino, 88, of Wheaton MD, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2022. He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Bernardina Manes Pustorino, his daughter, Maria Teresa (Douglas) O’Donnell, his brother Antonio (Elisabetta) Postorino, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and his sister.
Born in Archi di Reggio Calabria Italy, Ignazio was surrounded by a large loving family. He learned his trade of cabinet making and woodworking with a master craftsman and made many beautiful pieces of furniture for local families. His sense of adventure led him to become a guest worker in Germany, where he repaired churches and added fine carpentry to his craft.
He met the love of his life, Bernardina, through another Italian colleague also working in Germany and together they settled in Reggio Calabria to raise a family. In 1967, with economic opportunities limited, the family emigrated to the United States, settling in the suburbs of Washington, DC. Ignazio was immediately employed by a craftsman fine cabinetmaking business where he worked for his entire career creating many beautiful pieces that occupy homes, offices, and public spaces in the DC metro area.
Throughout his life he was an enthusiastic sports fan who loved Serie A soccer, bicycle racing, Formula One and NFL football. He was an avid fisherman and beach goer, loving nothing more than to spend summers at his Ocean City Maryland condo with his wife and a close circle of friends. He was a quiet man who led a life based upon basic tenets of love, respect, and integrity, and will be missed by many.
Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5 at St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church in Wheaton, Maryland, with a Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00am and Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
