Helen Edwina McLean

HELEN EDWINA MCLEAN, a long-time Washington area resident, on February 9, 2025 from natural causes at age 104. 

Born in Dallas, TX, at 16 she married Lt. William H. Mills, Jr., a WWII "Liberty" bomber pilot who died in action in 1944. She later married U.S. Army Captain David R. McLean, moving with him to Washington where he became a career CIA officer with postings in Latin America and the Caribbean. 

Long active in volunteer work with the Wolf Trap Foundation, Civitan, McLean Community Center and other groups, "Eddie" was an avid theatergoer and bridge player and enjoyed worldwide travels. She was a loyal and caring friend to many. 

Survivors include son Timothy McLean of Tucson, AZ; daughter Victoria Kornemann of Gaithersburg, MD; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life luncheon will be held on Sunday, March 30, 2025, 12:30pm, at  Il Porto Italian Restaurant, 245 Muddy Branch Rd, Gaithersburg, MD 20878, (301) 590-0735.  This will be a forum to come together informally and give my Edwina a great send-off.  It's a time and place for all who've known her (or known much of her, via the family) to share stories, hopefully some laughter, and toast a great life together.  For our family, it's the opportunity to thank all who've extended their love and support, and friendship (as many of you have  been so generous to do) to Edwina, and thereby, to our family as well.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests directing memorial contributions to your local animal rescue groups.
