Helen Cecilia Gleeson

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Helen Cecilia Gleeson of Silver Spring, MD on Saturday, March 8, 2025.

Helen was born on July 2, 1942, to Aloysious and Marie Gleeson in Washington DC. She attended The Academy of Notre Dame and later moved to Olney, Maryland to raise her family.

Helen, beloved mother, is survived by her 4 children, their spouses, and grandchildren. They include Theresa and Mike Doherty and their children, Justin Bilik, Sean Doherty and Megan and Ohannes Hashashyan and great granddaughter Hazel; Mark Mahota and his children, Kaitlyn and Patrick; Karen and Fred Key and their children, Emily, Courtney & Abigail. Marybeth and Paul Miller and their children, Riley and Grace.

Helen is also survived by her sisters, Pat Donahue and her family and Patricia Gleeson and her family.

Helen worked at Leisure World of Maryland for 39 years. She worked in administration and the travel department. She loved her day trip groups and cruising to Alaska, Panama Canal and countless other destinations.

She will be missed dearly by all who called her Helen, Mom or Nana!

We invite friends and family to come together, celebrate Helen's life and honor her memory on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at Our Lady of Grace Church, 15661 Norbeck Boulevard Silver Spring, MD 20906; Visitation from 12 - 12:30pm and Service from 12:30 - 1:30pm.   Helen will be laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross or Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County (details below).
