Francis Posniewski Obituary

Francis S. Posniewski, 94, of Rockville, Maryland died peacefully with family at his side on February 25, 2024.

Born May 15, 1929, Francis and his three siblings were raised in Troy, New York by their parents Walter Konstantine Posniewski and H. Ethel LaBarge Posniewski. He attended La Salle Institute in Troy, graduating in 1947 and then worked with his father at Fosters Printing Company. He joined the U.S. Navy Reserve and was called to active duty at the start of the Korean War. He loved the Navy. He then worked in the printing industry, retiring as Assistant Superintendent of Regional Operations after 32 years at the Government Printing Office (GPO).

Francis was married to Barbara J. Posniewski (Mendel) for 68 years. They made Rockville, Maryland their home where they lovingly raised eight children, Michael William (Shellie) Posniewski of Longmont, Colorado, Robert Walter (Mary Sue) Posniewski of Bethesda, Maryland, Monica Mary (Garry) Abare of Altamonte Springs, Florida, James Gerard (Diane) Posniewski of Venice, Florida, Daniel Paul (Lisa) Posniewski of Mt. Airy, Maryland, Mary Kathryn (Philip) Trudeau of Eden, Maryland, Barbara Marie (Blair) Kramer of Woodsboro, Maryland and the late John Francis Posniewski. He was “Dziadziu” to his 18 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Francis was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife Barbara, and brother J.”Conny” Posniewski. He leaves behind a sister Mary Riley (Jim, deceased) of Brunswick, New York and brother Gene (Mary) Posniewski of Troy, New York, and his dear friend, Johnny, his pet Shih Tzu. He dearly loved his many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Francis was a devoted parishioner at the Shrine of St. Jude for several decades, where he volunteered as a Lector and an Extraordinary Minister Of Holy Communion, as well as organized and enjoyed parish social events with friends, who he loved like family. As a Fourth Degree Knight, he also found time to do charitable work with the Knights of Columbus. Proud of his heritage, Francis was a committed member and chairperson of the Polish Club of Rockville, where he organized many club activities, including his favorite, the Polka. He and Barbara spent many nights joyously dancing and impressing their audience. An avid camper, he bravely piled his family into the van, taking them to unforgettable vacations in the Adirondacks, Ocean City MD, and the Pennsylvania mountains where he thoroughly enjoyed cooking over an open fire in the great outdoors. He felt blessed to spend his retirement AirStreaming to all 49 contiguous states, Canada and the Arctic Circle with Barbara by his side and served as an officer in the MidAtlantic Air Streamers Club for several years.

Other than requesting fine scotch for Christmas, Francis did not ask for much. He simply adored spending time in his yard. It filled him with pride to dote on his well-manicured lawn and receive his crown as Badminton Champion at backyard barbecues with family and friends. He loved gardening, both flower and vegetable, and spent his later years growing hot peppers, the hotter the better, to make his famous hot sauce. A good day was spent puttering around the yard while enjoying a baseball game on the radio and an ice cold beer. Family and friends will remember him for his unwavering love, faith, kindness, wry sense of humor, strong work ethic and steadfast patriotism.
