Etedal Mikhail Obituary

Etedal “Afaf” Sedrak Mikhail left our earthly realm in absolute peace and comfort on Friday, February 20, 2026, surrounded by the love and gratitude of her family after suffering a devastating stroke on October 13, 2025. She selflessly shared the gifts of her unwavering love, work ethic and faith until her very last days.

Etedal was born and raised in Egypt, where she was one of eight siblings and was joined in loving marriage to her husband of 56 and a half years, Dr. Adel Nathan Mikhail, who preceded her in death on April 28, 2020. Together they traveled in Africa and Europe, before settling in the U.S. They shared the common goal of building a life of opportunity for their family, with education, resilience, and fortitude as their core values.

Etedal was the ultimate mother to her daughters Inas Anderson (Kevin) and Vivian Mikhail (Peter Rosenberg); Grandma to her grandchildren Dr. Julia McCann (Chandler), Olivia Swanson (Jerry), Joseph Anderson (Kaeleigh Bowen), and Nadia Rosenberg; and Gigi to great-grandson Brody McCann.

Over the years, Etedal dedicated her time to her family and held many roles to so many of her loved ones and her community. She was the consummate office manager of her husband’s busy solo medical practice in Laurel, Maryland for 30 years. When her grandchildren were born, they became the new center of her world, and she was their ever-willing caregiver, chauffeur, homework helper, and relentless fan.

She also made time for travel with Adel, to places like Egypt, Patagonia, Maine, and various warm destinations, including their favorite beaches. Her love of the beach and appreciation of the beauty of a sunrise is ingrained in her family. Etedal’s familiar smiling face and genuine encouragement extended to her church community, with her ever-ready helping hands volunteering in the office and supporting the youth during one of her favorites: summer vacation Bible school. She adored festive holidays and family gatherings, relished beautiful flowers and breathtaking, creative arrangements, personified the height of fashion, and appreciated music of all kinds. Grandma/Gigi always had everyone’s favorites at heart! These memories will be held dear as we strive to carry her vibrance and devotion forward in her honor.

We are heartbroken that she is no longer with us, but at peace that her suffering is no longer. Heaven has gained the most fierce and elegant angel.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Chevy Chase Fire Department - Station 7, 8001 Connecticut Avenue, Chevy Chase, MD 20815; or to Bethesda United Methodist Church Youth Fellowship Fund, 8300 Old Georgetown Road, Bethesda, MD 20817.

Plans for a celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
