On Sunday October 15, 2023, Elizabeth Mary (Joseph) Heffron known by everyone as “Sito” entered eternity at the age of 92. Betty was a resident of Grace House Assisted Living Facility in Silver Spring, MD. She was born on November 2, 1930, in Fitchburg Massachusetts to Louis and Katherine Joseph the third of seven children. Betty married John Holmes Heffron on May 6, 1961, at St Michael’s Catholic Church in Silver Spring, MD. Together, they had 8 children and raised them at their family home in Forest Glen, Maryland.
Betty lived by the values of faith and family. She was an active parishioner at St. Andrew Apostle Catholic Church where she attended and transported many friends to daily Mass. She participated in and hosted weekly Prayer Groups and Bible Study. She dedicated her life to serving her family and others, volunteering weekly for Birthright, serving Mass at Arcola Nursing Home, and making meals every Wednesday for So Others May Eat (SOME).
She is survived by her children, Christopher (Catherine), Martin (Pamela), Fr. Maximilian (bornTimothy) Heffron, Maureen Lon (Tony), Patrick, Laura Collins (Michael), and Douglas (Marcia); her grandchildren, Jaqueline (Casey), Ashley (Kris), Michael (Kathleen), Katherine (Thomas), Anthony, Meagan, Patrick, Makayla, Joseph, John, Daniel, Ian, Molly, Noel, and Luke. Sito had three great-grandchildren: Quinn, Avila, and Jonathan as well as three great-grandchildren on the way. She is also survived by her sisters, Margaret and Sandra, and several nieces and nephews.
She is met in Heaven by her parents, her husband, her son, John, her siblings Nash, Francis, Judy, and Frieda, and her grandson, Christian.
Visitation will be on October 26th, 2023 from 5:00-7:00 PM and October 27th, 2023 from 11:00am-12:00PM at St. Andrew Apostle Catholic Church, 11600 Kemp Mill Road, Silver Spring, Maryland 20902. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 12:00PM on October 27th, 2023. Internment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20906.
