Elizabeth Gibson Bordley Goldsborough Guccion, 80, of Bethesda, MD, passed away peacefully at her home on January 4, 2026.
Elizabeth, affectionately known as “Liz,” was born on November 26, 1945, in Baltimore, Md., to Murray and Charlotte Goldsborough. At Towson Senior High School, she made the varsity softball team as a freshman, an uncommon athletic feat at that time, before graduating in 1964. In 1973, Elizabeth married her late husband, John G. Guccion, who preceded her in death on Christmas Day 2025. Together, they shared more than 50 years of marriage.
While raising three children as a stay-at-home mom, Elizabeth ran her own home childcare business in the early 1990s. She later achieved her dream of graduating from culinary school, completing the L’Academie de Cuisine Culinary Career Training Program in Gaithersburg, Md., in 1995. She worked in both deli and restaurant settings for several years and was featured in The Washington Post during her time as the head chef of Black Forest Cafe in Ashton, Md. Elizabeth and John spent their retirement years traveling the country, with Yellowstone National Park among their favorite destinations.
Elizabeth resided in the Wildwood Manor neighborhood of Bethesda for more than five decades. Always eager to tell a joke, she was known for her energetic personality, quick wit, and extraordinary cooking, and was beloved by many in the community.
Elizabeth is survived by her son, John Guccion (Brandi) of Irving, TX, and daughters Erin Lovely (Jason) of Arlington, VA, and Mary Kate Ephraim (Brian) of Garrison, NY. She is also survived by her brother, Tommy Faries, sisters Peggy Lambdin and Stephanie Robson Goldsborough Bigwood, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Susan Bell.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 24, at Holy Cross Church in Garrett Park, Md., at 11:15 a.m., with the Funeral Mass to follow at noon. Interment will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, Md., at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the National Park Foundation at nationalparks.org.
