On Tuesday, October 1, 2024, Elizabeth Rita Barrett of Silver Spring, MD died peacefully. She was 92. Liz was preceded in death by her father William J. Barrett Sr, her mother Mary Rita Barrett; sisters Jane DeCarlo and Mary Ellen Mulligan. She is survived by brothers John A. Barrett of Vienna, VA and William J. Barrett Jr. of Rockville, MD; and by twelve nieces and nephews.
A native Washingtonian, Liz grew up in Anacostia, attended St. Mary's Academy in Leonardtown, MD, and graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy in 1952. She pursued a career with the Federal Government, working for several agencies beginning with Atomic Energy Commission and retiring from the DEA. In retirement, Liz and her beloved sister, Mary Ellen Mulligan, traveled throughout the United States and abroad.
Relatives and friends may call at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church - 10103 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20902 - on Tuesday, October 22 at 11am with the Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11:30am. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, MD.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities of Washington DC or to the Casey House of Montgomery Hospice in Rockville, MD (details below).
