Elaine Rosalie Gormley

Elaine R. Gormley of Silver Spring, Maryland, passed away at home on December 21, 2021.

Elaine had been a dedicated and gifted teacher for over four decades. One of Elaine’s firm teaching beliefs was the love of teaching children over the monetary value of her job. During her impressive career, she had touched the lives of numerous students through her kindness, compassion, and caring demeanor. Through these values, Elaine taught her students what it was meant to be a “good citizen”. They learned when to say “thank you”, how to properly greet anyone in the hallway, and assist with holding a door when someone needed assistance. All of this while never needing to raise her voice one bit. As the years followed, former student’s children became Elaine’s students. Those parents felt pride that the same values Elaine taught them will be passed along to their children.

From the decades of teaching students, many of the younger teachers saw Elaine as a mentor for her common-sense approach and supporting encouragement as they transitioned into their teaching career.

Elaine was truly a loving and caring mother. She was always there to give guidance. It did not take much to make her happy and she was always so appreciative and humble for everything she had. Elaine touched so many lives and will be missed, but remain in our hearts and you have our deepest love.

Elaine is survived by her daughter, Barbara Drieu; son, Timothy Gormley (daughter-in-law, Jaleh); son, Kevin Gormley (son-in-law, George Travez), and caregiver and friend, Maureen Speid.

Funeral services will be celebrated on Friday, January 28, 11:00 am at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 15661 Norbeck Blvd., Silver Spring, MD. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
