Edward Meros Obituary

Edward John Meros, a devoted husband, beloved father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025, at Shady Grove Hospital. He was 94 years old and lived a full and meaningful life.

Born in Port Carbon, Pennsylvania, on January 13, 1931, Ed was the son of the late Anthony and Veronica Meros. One of nine children, he is survived by his brother Chester Meros.

In 1962, Ed married Alice, and together they shared more than six decades of love and unwavering support. Their marriage was a true partnership through every chapter of life.

Ed served as an Administrative Law Judge for the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences and had a long and distinguished career spanning more than 40 years with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He was recognized with a Special Achievement Award in 1982 and a Bronze Medal Award in 1985 for his exemplary service. Earlier in life, Ed served in the U.S. Army as a medical technician in Japan during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1955. He graduated from Penn State University with a degree in chemistry and later earned his law degree from The George Washington University Law School. He was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 1963.

He remained intellectually engaged throughout his life—an avid news reader and devoted follower of current events. He found joy in gardening, gave generously to charitable causes, and was proud of his Polish heritage. He was a dedicated Catholic whose life reflected quiet faith, curiosity, and service.

He is survived by his loving wife, Alice; his son, Edward Meros, MD; his daughter, Alicia Carney, Esq.; and his grandchildren, Sophia, Greyson, and Leila Carney. He was predeceased by his son, Joseph A. Meros.

Ed’s wife, children, and grandchildren adored him. He was a man of humor, kindness, wisdom, and quiet strength. He approached life with curiosity and purpose, and he will be deeply missed.
