Dolores E. McDonnell LeMieux, 91, passed away peacefully at her home in Leisure World, Silver Spring, MD on August 31, 2020. Her husband of 72 years, Edmund F. LeMieux, was by her side.
Dolores was born on December 21, 1928 in Philadelphia, PA. Her family moved to Brookland in Washington, DC when she was 6 years old. She graduated from St. Anthony's High School and from Notre Dame Academy's Secretarial School. She met her husband at St. Anthony's when he arrived at school when they were in 8th grade. They started dating the summer before the 11th grade and have been a couple ever since.
Dolores is the mother of 6 children - Sharon Garten (D) (Gary), Patricia Phipps (Charles), Edmund LeMieux II (Beth), Donna Gilbertson (Allan), John LeMieux (Lauren Burgess), Dennis LeMieux (Anne). She has 14 grandchildren - Kelly, Lara, Nicole, Tripp, Chad, Elise, Corinne, Beau, Max, Cole, Halle (D), Jack (D), Charles, and Sharon; and 14 great-grandchildren. Dolores is also survived by her sister Bernice Cranston. Her other 3 siblings, Mary Jane McGolrick, Harry McDonnell, Rita Klosky preceded her in death.
Dolores and her husband, Ed, travelled the U.S. extensively, visiting friends and family across 47 of the contiguous states. She loved spending time with her brother and sisters, her children, and all of her extensive family. In her time alone, she composed and wrote wonderfully wise, rhythmic verse. Four books of her poems will perpetuate her voice.
Dolores gave herself completely in answering her calling to be wife and mother to her family. Her firm Catholic faith guided her and gave her strength. Her sweet heart was always open and available to those who knew and loved her. She was unfailingly gentle and forgiving. Dolores' support and understanding will be missed by everyone who shared her life.
Visitation will begin at 11:30am on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 15663 Norbeck Blvd, Silver Spring, MD 20906; where the Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 12:30pm. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, MD.
