Dewitt “Dutch” Hahn

Dewitt Hahn Obituary

Heaven welcomed another angel Monday, March 22, 2021. Dewitt "Dutch" Fletcher Hahn peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Hahn, a Rockville resident, worked as a teacher and coach for Montgomery County Public Schools for over 40 years.  He was a PE and driver’s ed teacher.  He mentored and coached baseball, basketball, softball, gymnastics, football, track, volleyball and golf.  In 1978-79 he was awarded Coach of the Year for golf from the Montgomery County Coaches Association.

He coached golf at Montgomery College where he was honored Coach of the Year from the National Junior College Athletic Association in 1990.  He and his team won the National Championship that year and were inducted into the Montgomery College Hall of Fame.

Dutch Hahn was born in DC, lived in Kensington and graduated from BCC HS.  He received a Bachelors and Masters Degree from University of Maryland where he played baseball as well.  He was honorably discharged from the National Guard in 1957 and served in the reserve for the United States Army for ten years.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Marcia Price Hahn of Rockville; daughter Carole Valis (Kenny) of Gaithersburg and son Ricky Hahn (Sarah) of Potomac; nine grandchildren: Bailey Hahn, Emily Hahn, Angelos Valis, Dominic Valis, Dutch Hahn, Lola Hahn, Danny Hahn, Zeppelin Hahn and Irish Hahn; and one great grandchild: Jane “Tootsie” Hahn. Predeceased by his daughter Becky (Mike) and his siblings Mary, William, and James.

The memories we behold of Daddy Dutch will be everlasting. Hip! Hip!

We are having an intimate outdoor memorial celebration of his life on Saturday, March 27, 2021 from 3:30 to 6:30 pm at the Hahn residence located at 11401 Big Piney Way in Potomac, Maryland. Due to the pandemic, we will uphold safe CDC guidelines. There will be a Facebook LIVE feed for those who prefer to attend virtually.
